MARTYN Richards has tomorrow tasked his troops with putting their Dorset Premier League title bid back on track.
Dorchester sat proudly at the summit a fortnight ago but a shock defeat to lowly Ferndown Wayfarers, followed by last week’s abandoned clash with Broadstone, has seen Richards’ men slip to fourth in the table.
Tomorrow they travel to seventh-placed Wimborne & Colehill and the county town captain is eyeing a third win of the campaign. But not without caution.
He said: “Wimborne lost to Weymouth last week but they’ve had a couple of good results so far this year and we know they have a good batting line-up.
“So we know that we really need to produce some of the form that saw us take a flurry of wickets against Broadstone last week before the rain came.
“We need to take wickets earlier tomorrow though, as Wimborne have some powerful guys at the top of the order.
“Weymouth won a fantastic game against them last week and I’m sure they will feel unlucky to have lost. Wimborne have some strong characters and they will want to get back to winning ways.
“And we are the next opportunity for them to do that so we will have to be up for it.
“The boys are itching to play though and itching to put on a performance. If we do that and get the basics right then we can pick up a good result and get our season back on track.”
Dorchester make just one change this weekend with the returning Phil Morley coming in for spin bowler Krish Subramanian.
Richards added: “Krish hasn’t done anything wrong. He’s a good spinner but we’ve already got Rob Waite and Shaun Little in the side.
“Krish is disappointed to miss out and rightly so but it enables us to have Phil Morley back in the side and he can win a game by himself.”
The county town club are also looking forward to hosting Dorset’s must-win clash with Hertfordshire on Sunday (11am).
Asked for his thoughts on the MCCA Knockout Trophy clash at the Rec, Richards said: “They came here last year and won, which we were delighted about, and hopefully they will do the same on Sunday.
“The weather wasn’t great last year but the forecast is good for this weekend so we’re confident of getting a lot of people down to watch what is a big game for Dorset.”
Refreshments and a barbecue will be available at the Rec.
Dorchester: Waite, Rendell, Belt, Little, Richards, Mead, Evans, Herbert, Roe, Morley, Dunham.
* The third team host Sherborne Seconds (2pm).
