SIMON Barrett has warned his Portland Red Triangle side not to “underestimate” their opponents tomorrow when they travel to struggling Bridport in Dorset League Division Three (2pm).
The Brewery Fields outfit suffered a catastrophic 10-wicket defeat at the hands of Blandford Seconds last weekend when they were skittled for just 55.
However, Barrett is refusing to read too much into that result and insists his men will have to be at full tilt if they are to come away with the victory.
He said: “We know Bridport are a bit unpredictable and they are not doing well at the moment but we certainly cannot afford to underestimate them, particularly at their place.
“They obviously suffered a disappointing result last week but we also lost against Stalbridge Seconds where we collapsed from 100-2 to 157 all out so both teams will no doubt be looking to bounce back.”
Barrett went on to add: “Jon Dixon is back available for us, which will give us a bit more control in the bowling department, and another experienced head in Jan Davey will play his first game for the side in over two years.
“Ellia Manen will also make his debut tomorrow. He is a very lively bowler so it will be interesting to see how he performs.”
Simon Proffitt top scored for Portland against Stalbridge Seconds, who Barrett believes will be hard to stop.
He said: “I did not play last weekend but it certainly looks like Stalbridge are going to be the team to beat.
“They are riding high and in really good form whereas we just need to find a bit of consistency both in terms of availability and performance.”
Portland RT: Barrett, Adkins, Sawyer, Leake, Whisker, Laws, S Males, Dixon, Randell, Davey, T Manen. (Meet at ground 12.30).
* Portland Red Triangle Seconds will welcome back three all-rounders for their home clash against Lytchett Seconds tomorrow (2pm), with Sam Polley, Marco Nott and Dave Price all returning to action.
Skipper Grant Neven said: “Over the last few games, despite having to chop and change the team, we have produced excellent all-round displays.
“We have a winning look about us and are playing at the top of our game, and the fact Sam, Marco and Dave are back available is a big boost because all three bring something extra to the team and are proven match winners.”
Portland RT Seconds: Neven, Quayle, Lamming, D Males, Johnson, R Price, G Price, D Price, Nott, Polley, Locke. Matchball Sponsors: Orange Cider Bar.
