BRIDPORT 55 (0pts) lost to BLANDFORD SECONDS 56-0 (20pts) by 10 wickets
MARK Smith summed up Bridport’s 10-wicket mauling at the hands of Blandford Seconds in one word: “Disaster.”
The West Dorset outfit were skittled for a meagre 55, with not a single batsman able to hit double figures.
A Lawrence (7-16) was the chief destroyer of the visiting order and defeat was secured inside nine overs courtesy of Blandford’s opening duo D Parker (22 not out) and S Franklin (31 not out).
Trying to make sense of Saturday’s collapse, skipper Smith said: “As you can see by the score card there is not a lot to say but disaster.
“After winning the toss I decided to bat first, which proved to be a bad call as it was a hard, flat wicket that didn’t play the way it looked.
“A lack of discipline and application from the majority of our players resulted in us giving our wickets away very cheaply.
“As captain I take responsibility for a poor display but myself and the players need to stand up and be counted and show more commitment to training etc.
“We also need to show our true potential because I know all of my players are capable of much, much more and there is no one in this division we can’t compete with.”
And Smith is targeting an immediate response in this Saturday’s home clash with Portland Red Triangle.
He added: “We need to learn from this game quickly and respond even quicker if we want to survive this year.
“Hopefully we will be back to our usual 11 this Saturday at home to Portland Red Triangle and we can put this disappointment behind us and to the back of our minds.”
Bridport currently languish third from bottom in Dorset League Division Three, one spot below this weekend’s visitors.
