MOBY Dick’s Bears drew level at the top of Swift Signs Division One following a 51-run win over Budmouth.

Batting first, the Bears overcame the early loss of Guest as James Almond (38) and Jim Ryall (39) forged a useful second-wicket partnership.

The introduction of Pete Moxom (3-39) and Phil Morley (1-17) brought much-needed wickets and helped slow the scoring as they finished on 126-6.

In reply, Budmouth lost regular wickets thanks to an inspired opening spell by Ryall (3-15), backed up by Laurie ‘Cube’ Whyte (2-20) and Trevett (2-9), and saw Budmouth close on 75-8.

Portland Red Triangle got a win under their belts at the third time of asking with a 36-run success over the Lugger.

Elliott Sawyer (56no) and Callan Laws (45) put on 99 for the second wicket as Triangle scored a competitive 121-2 from their 16 overs.

The Lugger never recovered from the loss of Scott Males on the first ball of the innings, though useful knocks by Pete Jarvis (26), Sam Polley (16) and skipper Marco Nott (24no) kept them in touch.

Tight fielding by Portland contained the visitors and they closed out the game with the Lugger on 85-5.

Albany Cavaliers maintained their 100 per cent record in Division Two, but were pushed hard by Southill Snooker Club at Redlands.

Southill made a decisive early breakthrough picking up four quick wickets including the dangerous Phil Eaton and Hayden White.

However, Dave Trotter (30) and Graham Puckett (32) mounted a recovery, helping the Cavaliers reach 93-6.

Southill’s Bailey (52) led a one-man assault as numerous batting partners fell around him.

Nathan Ellis (3-27) and Eaton (3-16) starred with the ball and it was Ellis who finally removed Bailey with Southill falling 13 runs short in the final over.

Wessex Gasworks collected their first points of the season with a five-wicket win over the Portland Arms.

Gasworks bowled out the Arms for just 51 with six bowlers picking up wickets, Derek Millen the pick of them with 4-5.

In reply, Portland’s father and son combination of Simon (1-9) and James Davies (1-13) bowled a tight opening eight overs to give the islanders hope, but a composed 23 from Ryan Price guided the Gasworks to the win.

The George Inn also got off the mark with a win over Cosmos.

Vincent (64) and Sugg (47no) shared a century opening stand to put the George in the driving seat at Redlands as they posted 125-1 from 16 overs.

Cosmos’ reply started badly as Lenny Hansford (2-16) accounted for both openers.

Burdett’s unbeaten 31 helped steady the ship, but Cosmos continued to lose wickets as Matt Kelly (2-10) and Les Spencer (2-30) turned the screw and the George ran out comfortable winners by 43 runs.
