WEYMOUTH SECONDS 201-6 (9) lost to SHROTON 330-8 (18) by 129 runs
SKIPPER Darren Ball and Matt Pike put on an incredible stand of 247 as Shroton captured a fine 129-run victory over Weymouth Seconds at Redlands.
Two early wickets from Graham Puckett (4-46) saw the pair join forces with the score on 20-2 and their response was emphatic with Ball reaching 105 and Pike top-scoring with 160.
In the end the visitors’ innings closed on 330-8, giving Weymouth a massive mountain to climb and to their credit they gave it their best shot with Cameron Armfield (33), Hugh Bowden (23), Sean Fitzgerald (64 not out), Dave Trotter (26) and Puckett (26 not out) all getting amongst the runs.
However, compared to the 35 extras given away in the first innings, Shroton’s bowlers proved a lot less charitable and eventually the Seasiders ran out of overs, closing on 202-6.
Weymouth are still searching for their first win of the season in Dorset League Division One and will look to achieve that this afternoon when they travel to Broadstone Seconds (1.30pm).
