TERRY Oldrid and Jules Stout maintained their 100 per cent record in the Weymouth League by defeating Dom Cosserat and Mike Powell in the A league final.
Cosserat had to change partners this week after Elliott Sawyer was forced to withdraw with a hamstring injury but Powell more than filled the gap.
The duo hit the ground running and cruised through the early rounds before taking Oldrid and Stout all the way in a three-set thriller.
Oldrid and Stout took the first set 15-10 but Cosserat and Powell stormed back in the second to win 15-12.
That set up a dramatic finale with the power hitting of Oldrid being well contained by the back court play of Coas-serat and Powell. Eventually the match came down to the last few points, which saw Oldrid and Stout’s hitting just have the edge as they came through to win 15-13.
In third place and claiming their best-ever finish were Ali Mitchell and Steven Williamson, which is further evidence of their growing credentials.
A nine-team event in the B league saw a first win of the season for Dan Bessant and Dan Cree, who defeated 19-year-olds Matt Palmer and Andy Carlile in the final 15-13.
All the players will be back again this Tuesday for the third event of the series.
However, new entrants are always welcome with registration taking place on the stretch of sand opposite Alexandra Gardens between 6pm and 6.30pm.
