MARTYN Rogers could be set for a sensational return to the Weymouth hot-seat.

The ex-Tiverton Town boss parted company with the club by mutual consent last week due to concerns over next season’s playing budget but it appears a shock U-turn could be on the cards.

A club source told Echosport yesterday that the board is doing “everything in its power” to come to an agreement with Rogers, a claim that was later backed up by the following statement.

It reads: “Majority shareholder Amanda Rolls never wanted to see Martyn leave the club and hopefully with the sponsors night coming up next Wednesday enough money will be raised to up the budget in order for him to return.”

The news will come as a huge blow to assistant-manager Brendon King and ex-Terras’ skipper Mike Fowler, who were initially seen as the leading contenders to take on the role.

Constant attempts to contact Rogers have been made by Echosport over the last fortnight but it appears, for the time being anyway, the Bristolian is preferring to remain tight-lipped on the issue.

The sponsors evening will take place in the Weyline Lounge at the Bob Lucas Stadium at 7pm with all sponsors, old and new, and supporters welcome to attend.

There will also be a shirt presentation to all those that took out player shirt sponsorships last season.

A statement on the club’s official website reads: “Weymouth FC would like to thank all the supporters who helped contribute last season and we look forward to seeing them all next Wednesday evening.”
