LAURIE ‘Cube’ Whyte will make his first appearance of the season tomorrow when Weymouth host Wimborne & Colehill at Redlands (1.30pm).
The economical bowler’s return is a timely boost for the Seasiders who have opted to strengthen their attack this week, following last week’s frustrating four-wicket defeat at Broadstone where they scored 260-6 but failed to back it up with the leather.
Club stalwart Dave Trotter told Echosport: “Due to inconsistent performances with the ball, skipper Paul Payne has decided to go with six bowlers this weekend.
“He feels last week must be improved upon and has opted for Cube who is renowned for his line and length, and can also pick up a few wickets for not very many runs.
“As a consequence, Kieron Womble has dropped to the twos and I am sure he will be disappointed with that.
“However, I have no doubts he will bounce back, and I expect he will feature heavily for the seconds tomorrow, not only with the bat but as a bowler as well.
“Kieron doesn’t tend to keep anymore, which is his decision and a real shame as far as I am concerned, but it’s his own game and he knows his own mind.”
Tom England is also back available and will replace Andy Jarvis tomorrow.
The talented batsman hit 62 not out in his last outing for the Seasiders on May 14 when he helped lead the team to a 21-run triumph over Ferndown Wayfarers.
Weymouth: Payne, Janaway, B Lawes, Ryall, England, Ulhaq, M Lawes, Browne, Whyte, Nobbs, Hutchins.
