Portland Red Triangle’s Simon Barrett is hoping to exploit home advantage when his in-form side face high-flying Stalbridge Seconds at Reforne tomorrow (2pm).
Portland have won their last two fixtures but Barrett is expecting a challenging contest when they face the unbeaten North Dorset outfit, who are currently second in the league after three victories in which they have dropped just one point.
With Barrett unavailable this weekend, opening batsman Chris Leake will be taking over the captaincy.
And the islanders will be hoping for a repeat of the heroics Leake performed in their previous home fixture against Compton House when he compiled a club record equalling 208 not out.
Barrett said: “Stalbridge are obviously flying high at the moment after three victories and will present us with a tough challenge. However, we are in great form ourselves after two victories and we will be looking to win again.
“I don’t want to sound dismissive but in these situations I don’t worry about the opposition too much or the fact that it is their second side. We will be ready to play whatever side they bring on Saturday and we can only concentrate on what our team does.
“We have a few changes to our side with John Dixon, Elliot Sawyer and myself all unavailable.
“We have brought in George Munro, Gareth Price and Callum Brown as replacements.
“George was our opening bowler last season and has now taken over groundsman responsibilities as well. Callum is another seam bowler and a very technically correct batsman who is certainly one for the future.
“Gareth has already played for the first team this season and is a very capable batsman. He will fit into the team with little fuss so we have no worries there.”
With the absence of key figures such as Dixon and Sawyer, Barrett is looking to use the Reforne ground to their advantage.
“Home advantage is critical for us,” said Barrett. “I can’t imagine that many of their players have ever played on our track before so that will definitely go in our favour.”
Triangle: Leake, Proffitt, Adkins, Laws, Munro, Randell, S. Males, Whisker, Nott, Price, Brown.
