Portland boxers did the club proud at their recent home show – but some dubious calls from the officials saw the islanders claim just one victory overall.
Every one of Portland’s eight members on the bill gave 100 per cent effort and all their bouts went the distance before the majority lost out by the smallest of margins.
Star performer among the island contingent was Taylor Wakefield.
Wakefield was up against Connor Adaway from Plymouth, an opponent he had met on three previous occasions with each bout ending in defeat for the former.
However, the Portland boxer’s increased efforts in training clearly paid off as he finally gained revenge with a majority verdict – also earning him the accolade of best junior boxer.
Unfortunately, there was no such joy for fellow islanders Tom Jarvis, Luke Alder, Arran Thomas, Ryan Thomas, Brendan Thomas, Jean-Marc Parry and Claude Delange, despite their best efforts. There were though, wins for Weymouth’s Fabian Peterkin and Dorchester’s Jamie Gosney.
