PETE Moxom produced a masterclass with both bat and ball to send Budmouth to the top of Division One.
The ex-Dorchester star took 2-20 off four overs before embarking on a classy knock of 79 not out to lead the Charlestown outfit to an eight-wicket victory over Saggies.
Saggies set 127-3 off their 16 overs thanks to some big hitting from Brendon King (26) towards the end of the innings but a first-wicket stand of 71 in reply from Dave Baney (24) and Moxom soon saw Budmouth in complete command.
Paul Gadsby eventually removed Baney in the eighth over but Moxom proved unstoppable as he led his side over the winning line in the 14th over.
New Look recovered from their opening day defeat with a comfortable victory against Portland Red Triangle at Redlands.
Batting first, New Look openers Ulhaq (35) and Chatterton (41) both rode their luck and not even quick wickets from Brown (2-33), Laws (1-21) and Randell (1-35) could slow the progress as the islanders went on to post 142-4.
In reply, Proffitt (29) and Laws (28) gave Portland hope with a first-wicket stand of 59 but the introduction of Baldock (3-18) to the attack saw them fall behind the required run rate ending 45 runs shot on 97-4.
The Lugger pulled off a surprise win over defending champions Moby Dick’s Bears.
Batting first, the Chickerellers found scoring difficult against the Bears’ bowlers and finished on 88-8 from their 16 overs.
However, a fine display of containing bowling from Sam Polley (1-12) and Jon Dixon (1-16) saw the Bears also struggle for runs.
Change bowler Scott Males (4-12) then caused huge damage as he ripped through the Bears’ middle order, helping to dismiss them for 69 and secure a 19-run win.
In Division Two, Cosmos recorded their maiden victory of the season with a 16-run defeat of Wessex Gasworks.
Montgomery’s fine innings of 51 guided Cosmos to a competitive total of 117-5 from 16 overs before Gasworks’ opener Gareth Price (45 not out) countered with the support of Smith, only for their opponents to hold on in the final over.
