SEAN Walbridge is looking forward to locking horns with some of Cricket’s top international stars in two eagerly-anticipated Twenty20 matches over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The Dorset boss will see his side take on the Gloucestershire Gladiators at Sherborne School (5pm) next Friday before Hampshire Royals visit Dean Park the following Monday (2.30pm).
Muttiah Muralitharan, Shahid Afridi, Imran Tahir and Jimmy Adams are amongst the opposition Walbridge’s men could face and it is hoped both games will attract big crowds.
“We play Gloucester Gladiators this Friday and we are all excited about the possibility of facing the likes of Muttiah Muralitharan, John Lewis, Alex Gidman and former Dorset player David Payne,” said Walbridge.
“We will then take on Hampshire on Bank Holiday Monday in a game that pits the Minor County champions against the domestic Twenty20 champions.
“I am sure that match will really whet the appetite of the public.
“The local rivalry between the counties has always been keen and Hampshire are sure to bring a strong side as its their only warm up game before the Twenty20 competition starts.
“The likes of Dominic Cork, Dimi Mascarenhas, Shahid Afridi, Imran Tahir and Jimmy Adams are all expected to feature and it is an excellent opportunity for us to promote Minor Counties cricket and showcase our talents against the professionals.
“Both matches promise a party atmosphere with spectators and families encouraged to bring picnics, blankets and folding chairs to make the most of these special occasions.”
Ticket prices for each of the two games are as follows: £50 for a school or club ticket (two adults and 10 children), £20 for a family ticket (two adults and two children), £10 for adults, £5 for children, students and OAPs. Dorset CCC members can gain free entry on production of their membership card.
Tickets can be obtained from the Dorset Cricket Board office on 01202 881349 or Dorset CCC secretary Barry Lewis on 01258 472282.
Gladiators tickets are also available at Sherborne TIC. Refreshments, a beer tent, ice creams and hot and cold food will all be available at Sherborne School.
