Portland RED TRIANGLE v
CATTISTOCK
SIMON Barrett insists Portland Red Triangle are “confident but not cocky” ahead of tomorrow’s trip to basement boys Cattistock (2pm), writes Rob Meech.
The islanders are still buzzing from last weekend’s sensational victory over Compton House, in which opener Chris Leake smashed a club record equal-ling 208 not out.
Jon Dixon then followed up with 7-26 as Portland claimed a 196-run success – their opening Dorset League Division Three win of the season.
Acting skipper Barrett, who is set to lead an unchanged side, revealed spirits in the camp were sky high and moved to ease fears his troops might suffer from complacency at winless Cattistock.
He said: “We are confident but not cocky. We know they are a better team at home than away and if we think we can just turn up and win then we are wrong.
“But we also know that if we play well then we have every chance of winning the game. We will have to be at our best and treat it like any other game.
“I’m going to make sure complacency is not an issue and I don’t think it will be. It’s a completely new game and both teams will start all square.”
Reflecting on an astonishing afternoon at Reforne, Barrett lauded Leake’s innings as among the best he had ever seen and also paid tribute to Dixon, who bamboozled the opposing batsmen.
Barrett added: “It was incredible. It was one of those days when Chris was completely in the zone and never looked like getting out – he could have batted all day.
“I’ve seen some excellent innings in my time but that was up there with the best of them. He hit 30 fours and his placement was outstanding.
“Jon was the difference when it came to the bowling. I don’t think they played him particularly well but he can only bowl against what is in front of him.”
Triangle: Barrett, Leake, Proffitt, Dixon, Sawyer, Randell, Adkins, Munro, Laws, Whisker, S Males.
* Portland Seconds welcome high-flying Winton Sports Thirds to Reforne in Division Eight tomorrow (2pm).
Triangle: Neven, Nott, Locke, R Price, G Price, D Price, Laming, M Males, D Males, Polley, Menan.
