FOR the second year running, pupils from St Andrew’s won the South Dorset Primary Schools’ Orienteering competition.
Four preliminary events were held at various schools, where up to 90 Year Five and Six pupils had the chance to enjoy a host of courses.
After improving their skills during these activities, the top teams from each school competed against one another at the final, held at the Nothe Gardens in Weymouth.
St Andrew’s were the clear winners with Holy Trinity in second and Chickerell third. Other schools taking part in the events were Conifers, St Nicholas & St Laurence, St Augustine’s, St George’s and Southill.
Individual winners of the final were Sophie Johnson and Dan Stevens from St Andrew’s, with Jessica Berry and Mitchell Page from Holy Trinity in second place and Evan Beviss and Jake Mould from St Andrew’s in third.
Event organisers Di and John Tilsley, from Wimborne Orienteers, said: “We were delighted that so many youngsters had the opportunity to enjoy the sport of orienteering.
“Thanks to the teachers and parents for bringing them along to these after-school sessions.
“Hopefully some of them may want to learn more and join an orienteering club, taking part with family and friends.”
