THOMAS Powell realised one of his biggest sporting dreams when he met Andy Murray and Greg Rusedski at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton.

Powell was invited to compete in the National Nine-and-Under Masters event along with the country’s best players, and produced a great performance to finish 12th.

However, the highlight of his day was clearly meeting British number one Murray who has provided the youngster with plenty of inspiration for the future.

Weymouth Tennis Club spokesperson Elaine Webb said: “Thomas had risen to competing at national level in record time.

“Just this time last year he was only taking part in local tournaments before going on to win regional events last winter.

“Thomas said he had ‘the best day of his life’ in Roehampton, which sums up just how much he loves the game, and he is an inspiration to his friends at Weymouth Tennis Club where he started out.”
