DORCHESTER Ladies made a fine start to their Edna Paisley League campaign, achieving maximum points against Sherborne Blue.
The Dorchester trio of Lyn Mumford, Liz Whatley and Fran Dyer beat E Hellier, D Davidson and P Cory 23-15 to set the ball rolling.
The game was fairly even until the county town quartet picked up a four to go 14-8 ahead, only to then drop a two and a five to go one shot behind at 15-14.
However, they finished strongly to prevail by eight shots.
On the other rink, Barbara Cowen, Sue Lofthouse and Kay Johns were never in trouble against S Oakley, B Whitburn and J Smith and ran out comfortable winners, 23-11.

DORCHESTER A 10
Portland VICTORIA 0
IN their first match of the season, Dorchester A beat Portland Victoria by winning all three rinks.
Dorchester’s Colin Ackerman, Alan Cox, Barry Day and Pete Clarke had a very convincing win over S Williams, T Sandland, P Birch and D Wheeler.
They were 17-1 up after only seven ends and continued in the same vein, eventually winning 31-11.
The other two rinks were much closer with Robbie Ward, Arthur Cox, Peter Stevenson and Dave Glanville being 18-5 up after 14 ends against H Ashworth, B Lynch, F George and K Osmond, only for the Portland quartet to pick up 12 shots over the next five ends.
But Glanville and co managed to hold on to win 19-18.
It was a similar story on the other rink with Dorchester’s Colin Lawley, Ray Bowden, Ken Whatley and Roger Nicholas being 17-4 up after 13 ends before Portland’s G Rice, C Ashworth, D Darby and S Masters came back at them and were only three shots behind with two ends to go.
But there was to be no miraculous turnaround as the county town foursome came out on top, 20-16.

DORCHESTER B 2 BRIDPORT C 8
DORCHESTER B suffered defeat against Bridport C in their first match of the Division Two campaign, only managing to win one rink.
The sole success came via John Saunders, Peter Hinds, Eddie Hart and Ken Reed, who fought back from 12-7 behind against J Groves, B Fox, M Griffiths and M Arthurs to win 19-15.
Mike Corbin, Dave Farley, Arthur Lacey and John Dyer came up against A Spiller, G Fry, B Pratt and D Hoskins of Bridport and, despite picking up a seven and five during the match, lost 25-18.
Dorchester’s other rink of Brian Scott, Stan Harland, Peter Johnstone and Pat Greenman slipped to a 30-16 reversal against A Hawkesworth, C Bosher, F Pomeroy and B Herbert.
County League A
DORCHESTER A 10 BRIPORT A 0
MAXIMUM points were achieved by Dorchester in their opening County League A match of the season at home to Bridport.
Dorchester’s Colin Ackerman, John Saunders, Gary Mumford and Pete Clarke came up against S Dunn, D Pattemore, A Bird and A Cowdrey and were 15-0 ahead after 10 ends before completing a 27-11 triumph.
Colin Lawley, Peter Stevenson, Roger Pinny and Roger Nicholas were also victorious – 20-3 up after 13 ends against R Lidington, P Scott, B Street and C Langdon before winning 25-10.
The county town quartet of Alan Cox, Roy Fowler, Clive Matthews and Ken Whatley were also well in the lead after 16 ends – 20-8 – and held their nerve to beat M Dare, J Carter, K Sanger and C Harp 23-17.
County League B
DORCHESTER B 0 BRIDPORT B 10
DORCHESTER B travelled to Bridport and returned home empty handed in this County League B game, even though there were only 10 shots between the sides.
Visiting Alan Lewis, Dave Farley, Bryan Tucker and Dave Bonnett were all square at 13-13 after 14 ends against F Pomeroy, D Hocking, D Gundry and M Smith but then dropped a five on the 16th and lost 23-19.
Brian Scott, J Weir, Eric Potter and Arthur Cox had a bad start against Bridport’s A Spiller, B Parker, P Tibble and N Ludders and were 18-6 down after 11 ends.
The county town contingent rallied but it was too little, too late and they went down 22-17.
It was a similar story on the other rink where Dorchester’s Norman Scott, Arthur Lacey, Ken Reed and Pat Greenman found themselves 14-6 down after 10 ends but went into the last end all square at 18-18.
However, Bridport picked up a crucial single to win 19-18.
