A TRIO of Dorchester & District boxers fought their way to victory in impressive displays.

Travis Walden, Jamie Gosney and debutant Ian Wellman were all victorious to ensure a county town treble.

Prior to his bout with Gosport’s Thomas Gregory, Walden claimed nothing would stand in his way. And so it proved.

Walden took the early initiative and the pressure was beginning to tell in the second with Gregory appearing to tire.

A lightning left jab had his opponent shaking before strong uppercuts in the third put Walden in command.

Both boxers rallied in the final seconds but it was Walden who saw his hand raised at the end.

New boy Wellman was up against Jonathan Day from Chard ABC in his maiden contest for the club.

And the county town member made an immediate impact, a massive right hand lifting his rival off his feet and onto the canvas – prompting a standing count of eight.

Day jumped to his feet but was back on the floor soon after as Wellman continued to dominate.

A respite allowed Day to recover and put his opponent on the back foot.

But Wellman responded and had the Chard boxer pinned to the ropes in the third before clinching a deserved victory.

At Portland’s latest tournament, Gosney went toe-to-toe with Launces-ton’s T Orchard.

Producing arguably his best ever performance, in front of family and friends, Gosney forced his opponent to retire.

Orchard boxed well behind his jab, particularly in the opening round, but some powerful hits from Gosney in the second turned the tables and the latter powered his way to victory.

After putting all his efforts into training for a rematch with Matt Sacchi, luck deserted Dorchester & District’s Rodney Dalley once more at Bournemouth.

The county town member started brightly and connected with some heavy jabs in the opening round.

However, his opponent appeared unfazed.

Dalley stepped up a gear in the second and closed in on his prey, until a crashing blow to the head stopped him in his tracks.

Dalley sustained a gash above his left eye as a result and the referee was forced to put an end to the contest.

Coaches Ben Geyser and John Deeley said: “The ref did a good job in stopping the bout. One minute everything was going right, Rodney just got caught on the night.”
