Dorchester Town boss Ashley Vickers is closing in on two transfer targets.

After the 2010/11 campaign saw the Magpies embroiled in yet another relegation battle, Vickers is keen to strengthen his squad at the earliest opportunity ahead of next season.

And he has been in contact with a mystery forward and an unnamed midfielder, hoping to convince both men that their future lies at the Avenue Stadium.

The 39-year-old, reluctant to reveal the duo’s identity, told Echosport: “We have spoken to a couple more players, we’re just waiting to get a yes or no.

“One of them is a young forward, who can also operate on the left-hand side, and the other is a box-to-box midfielder who can also score goals.

“Let’s hope something comes of both deals.”

At the same time, Vickers has quashed speculation linking top-scorer Ryan Moss, currently out of contract, with a switch to Blue Square Bet South rivals Havant & Waterlooville.

The Hawks were also thought to be keen on the 24-year-old back in January, but the county town chief added: “Rumours have been flying around but I’ve spoken to Shaun Gale at Havant and he has assured me there is nothing in those rumours.

“Ryan is an excellent forward and I know he wants to stay.

“I’m sure other lads will pick up a bit of interest as well but hopefully they will make the right decision and stay with us.”

Vickers also announced that midfielder Steve Devlin is already tied to a contract for next season.

* Dorchester's proposed friendly with rivals Weymouth, on July 30, has been cancelled by the latter, according to Magpies' vice-chairman David Martin.
