SKIPPER Martyn Richards hopes to see his Dorchester side hit top gear at home to Blandford tomorrow (1.30pm).
The county town outfit may sit joint top in the Dorset Premier League but Richards admits they are yet to realise their full potential.
And after rescuing victory from the jaws of defeat against Stalbridge on the opening day, before struggling with the conditions during last week’s abandoned clash at Poole Town, captain Richards believes tomorrow could be the perfect opportunity to showcase their true talent.
He said: “Some might say we have been a bit lucky so far as the game against Stalbridge could have been a bad defeat.
“But the lads stuck with it and showed what is possible with the right attitude.
“We’ve not yet reached our full potential so we want to hit top form very soon in order to consolidate our position at the top of the league.”
Discussing tomorrow’s visitors to the Rec, Richards added: “We have come off better in some of our more recent meetings but they have some good cricketers, they bowl a good line and length and it’s never easy to play against them.
“Hopefully we’ll go out there tomorrow, win our first toss of the season and get a good result.
“Fortunately we have the same team as last week so I’m pleased with the side we will be putting out tomorrow.
“We’re looking forward to hopefully completing a game this week. A few showers have been forecast but if that happens we will just have to roll with it. You never know what can happen with the weather though so we’ll just have to wait and see.”
All-rounder Dan Belt will no doubt have a spring in his step tomorrow after being called up to the Dorset squad that entertains Herefordshire at Redlands on Sunday.
Paying tribute to his team-mate, Richards said: “It’s great news. He’s an incredibly talented cricketer and when he wants to be he is a cut above everyone in the Dorset Premier League.
“He’s had offers to play elsewhere in higher leagues but he wants to make an impression at Dorchester.
“He deserves his place in the Dorset squad and he wish him the best of luck.”
Dorchester: Maslen, Waite, Rendell, Belt, Richards, Herbert, Little, Roe, Morley, Subramanian, Dunham.
* Dorchester Seconds travel to Swanage in Dorset League Division Two while the third team entertain Lytchett in Division Five (both 2pm).
