WEYMOUTH manager Martyn Rogers has revealed that negotiations are still ongoing over his playing budget for the 2011/12 season.

Rogers has been liaising with former chairman George Rolls but admits a figure has yet to be reached ahead of the forthcoming Zamaretto Premier Division campaign.

However, the Bristolian is hopeful the matter will be resolved within the next seven days so that he can kick-start his plans.

Rogers told Echosport: “I have had one or two rounds of discussions with George and it’s still ongoing. No definitive number has been set and it’s negotiable.

“It goes without saying that I would like as big a budget as possible but I also understand the financial situation at the club.

“Whatever the budget is, it has to be in the best interests of Weymouth. It’s difficult to get a happy medium because we don’t want to put the club in jeopardy but I’m sure we’ll strike a balance.

“I’m away for four or five days but I would like it to be sorted out on my return in the middle of next week so that I can start restructuring.”

Rogers meanwhile, has expressed his delight that top-scorer Warren Byerley has pledged his commitment to the Terras after snubbing interest from neighbours Dorchester Town.

The Weymouth boss added: “I’ve had a brief chat with Warren and he’s the sort of lad that if you cut him open he’d have Weymouth blood.

“He’s had a great season for the club and a player that others can bounce off. I’ve enjoyed working with him and am really glad he is staying put.”
