ASHLEY Vickers insists he will not lose any sleep over Warren Byerley’s decision to stay with neighbouring Weymouth.
The Terras’ top scorer revealed in yesterday’s Echosport that he is set to snub offers from both the Magpies and Salisbury City in order to remain at the Bob Lucas Stadium.
Although keen to add Byerley to his arsenal, the county town chief is far from anguished by the 26-year-old’s preference for the lower-league Terras.
“Warren has done ever so well for Weymouth and you have to give him plaudits for that,” said Vickers. “He’s a free agent and he would be well looked after and paid every week at Dorchester.
“If he wants to take the offer we’ve made then great as I think he could do very well here. If he wants to take other options then that’s down to him and we will move on.
“I have been in football too long to be bothered by things like this.
“We have offered him a good deal, the chairman spoke to him as well and assured him that at Dorchester everything is above board and everyone gets paid week in, week out.
“If people do not want to come here we will look elsewhere – I won’t lose any sleep over it.”
On the topic of other potential targets, the 39-year-old added: “We are speaking to players all the time, as well as managers from League clubs who may be keen to loan us players.
“We might not offer the terms that some players demand but we do things properly here and there’s a lot to be said for that in the current economic climate.”
Vickers also revealed that utility man Adam Taylor, who rejoined the club in February, will pen non-contract terms for the new season, saying: “He’s very much part of our plans for the future.”
Meanwhile, Vickers will be running and cycling to Land’s End later this month in memory of his mother Kathleen.
The Westfield Arts College teacher, whose mum sadly lost her battle with cancer, is raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
