WARREN Byerley wants to stay at Weymouth despite interest from Blue Square Bet South duo Salisbury City and Dorchester Town.

The talented striker, who netted 25 goals in all competitions for the Terras this season, is scheduled to hold further talks with boss Martyn Rogers this week.

The Magpies will be particularly disappointed by the news after letting Byerley leave the Avenue Stadium last summer.

The 26-year-old has received an offer from Magpies’ boss Ashley Vickers, which remains on the table, but it appears a return to the county town is more of a last resort.

In an exclusive interview with Echosport, Byerley said: “I am talking again with Martyn this week so we will see what happens.

“Salisbury have shown an interest and Dorchester have offered me a deal as well but obviously I would like to stay at Weymouth. That is my ideal choice and if everything is right that is where I will be next season.

“If Martyn gets a budget to give it a go, I believe we can really push on from staying up this season and start challenging in the top half of the table.

“We just need to get a couple in and with a good mixture of youth and experience I am sure we can go on to achieve good things.”

Byerley has become somewhat of a cult figure at the Terras and is hugely popular with the fans.

He added: “I really like it down at Weymouth and a lot of that is down to the fans who have been magnificent to me ever since I arrived.

“They have stuck by the team through the highs and lows and they have never stopped getting behind us.

“That is why I have told the likes of Salisbury and Dorchester that I want to see what happens here first so it’s pretty certain that I will stay.”
