PORTESHAM UNITED LEGENDS 2

MATT Croxson proved the legend killer for Portesham United by bagging four goals in an enthralling charity clash at the Avenue Stadium.

The Legends included blasts from the past from the late 70s through to the mid-90s with Billy Blackmore, Greg Ayles, Barry Harman and Dave Newey lining up alongside the likes of Andy Lowe, Mark Evans, Ted Pallister and Adam Jolliffe, but it was their younger opponents who took the lead.

Lee Rockingham opened the Possums’ account before Croxson added a second but the Legends soon responded with Bridport ace Shane Evans lashing home a stunning half- volley from 30 yards that would have graced any occasion.

Suddenly, the Posh began defying their years but after a period of sustained pressure they were caught out at the back when Croxson and Richie Narrowmore made it 4-1 before the break.

The Legends may have been tiring but their class and pedigree continued to carry them through with Steve Fuller going close to reducing the deficit on three occasions.

Evans then did exactly that by completing his brace but the Possums hit back again with a quick double from Colin Upfold to put the result beyond doubt.

However, Croxson clearly wanted to add more gloss to the scoreline and did so with two more excellent goals to wrap up a fantastic evening, which also saw Blackmore rattle the crossbar in the closing stages from 40 yards.

The match raised much-needed funds for the Dorset Air Ambulance and also saw the Possums unveil their new kit courtesy of McMurray & Martin Carpentry, who also sponsored the event alongside DSM Electrical.
