WEYMOUTH exacted revenge in the second annual meeting with HMS Portland.

After losing out in the inaugural contest, the Seasiders hit back this time around, running out 19-10 victors at Monmouth Avenue.

After both sides squandered opportunities to open the scoring, Weymouth’s man of the match Joe Gibson finally broke the deadlock, exchanging passes with winger Max Baudouin to cross in the corner.

Scrum-half Nathan Allan added the extras.

Weymouth then began to dominate, forcing their opponents into mistakes.

And from one such error, winger Dean Parker extended the home side’s lead. HMS Portland tried to clear their lines but Parker chased the kick down and touched down in the corner.

The visitors made some changes at the break and were quickly rewarded with an unconverted try.

Weymouth then stepped up a gear and registered the try of the game.

Centres Craig Steel and David Stone turned over a Portland attack before forwards Lian Berry, Glyn Arnold, Mike Orchard, Stephanius Jacobus and Ian Tibble moved up the pitch and won a penalty 10 metres out.

Flanker Will Hamlin took responsibility and crossed the whitewash under the posts with Allan kicking the conversion.

HMS Portland added another try just before the end but it was too little, too late.

Club chairman Glyn Arnold, who also played a part in the win, said: “It was great to welcome the players from HMS Portland along to the club and to continue this annual event of good community rugby.”
