MATT Groves has expressed a wish to remain at the Bob Lucas Stadium despite having had no contact with Weymouth manager Martyn Rogers since the end of the season.
The ex-Dorchester Town forward is currently a free agent and has already received interest from other clubs but is willing to play the waiting game with the Terras.
Groves said: “I haven’t had any contact with anyone at Weymouth and I don’t know what the manager’s plans are but at the moment I am willing to wait and see what happens.
“This is the first time in my career that I have really been in this position because I have always been tied to a club but there is certainly no rush to do anything.
“Ideally, I would like to stay at Weymouth because I really enjoyed my time there and played reasonably well but there are a couple of other directions I could go in as well.
“The plan is to see how things pan out over the next couple of weeks and if nothing happens, I will then look at making myself available.”
Talks are “still ongoing” between Rogers and the club’s board over next season’s playing budget.
The Terras’ boss said: “The quicker it gets sorted out the better but sometimes these things take time and the main thing we need to make sure is that we are all singing off the same hymn sheet.
“In the meantime, most of the players over 24 can do what they like, and to be honest I need to have a conversation with them all but I can only do that after the budget is finalised.”
