FORMER England and Tottenham Hotspur defender Graham Roberts will be the special guest when Dorchester Town and Weymouth go head-to-head in the first annual Bob Lucas Memorial Trophy clash at the Avenue Stadium on December 21 (8pm).
Roberts, who played for the Magpies and the Terras between 1978 and 1980, will hold a question and answer session before and after the game, along with ex-Weymouth legend Anni Iannone.
The encounter itself has been set up to celebrate the life of Bob Lucas, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
Bob spent time at both clubs during his fantastic career but it was his dedication to the Terras that will always be remembered.
Not only did he don the gloves for Weymouth but he also enjoyed a long spell as physio, as well holding the title of club president before sadly losing a battle with cancer at the age of 85 on August 12.
Terras’ boss Ian Hutchinson said: “Bob was a wonderful man and he will always be remembered forever for his time at Weymouth.
“He also had a spell with Dorchester and was a very popular person in the area, so hopefully there will be a really good turnout for him.
“Not only will the game bring two local clubs together but it will also be great to raise some money for the charity of his wife Jean’s choice.
“There is no such thing as a friendly between Weymouth and Dorchester, and I am sure it will be an entertaining game.
“But the most important aspect of the evening will be the reason for the occasion, and it will certainly be great to see Jean present the trophy in Bob’s honour at the final whistle.”
All the proceeds from the Bob Lucas Trophy encounter will be split between the two clubs and a charity of Jean’s choice.
Dorchester Town assistant-manager Phil Simkin added: “I knew Bob very well and he was a great man, and anything in his memory is well worth doing.
“I am sure it is going to be a great night with plenty of local rivalry there, and hopefully both teams will be able to put on a good game for the fans.”
Roberts will certainly be a popular guest at the event. The 51-year-old has also enjoyed a distinguished career in the game, which really took off in May 1980 when a non-League record transfer fee of £35,000 saw him leave the Terras for Spurs where he won two FA Cups and the UEFA Cup in the early 1980s.
He also won six England caps during his time at White Hart Lane before further success followed at Rangers, Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion.
After a short stint at Stevenage Borough, Roberts went into management with Yeovil Town and then Clyde in 2005. He is now the head coach of the Pakistan international side.
Roberts and Iannone will both speak in the Prince’s Marquee where supporters will be able to gain access by purchasing an all-inclusive pass for £30 per person, which includes a ticket to the match and a fish and chips supper. A table of 10 can also be reserved in the Marquee for £250.
For those fans that only want to watch the match, the cost of admission will be £10 for adults, £6 for concessions and £2.50 for under-16s.
