BOSS Trevor Senior reckons Bridport’s stunning victory over Wimborne Town can help them rediscover their early-season form.
Last week the Bees came back from a goal behind to book their place in the semi-finals of the Dorset Senior Cup, at the expense of their higher-league opponents.
It was the perfect remedy for a worrying sequence of three successive reversals in which some of the players had looked mere imposters.
And Senior, whose side could potentially face Weymouth or Dorchester Town in the last four, said: “Right from the first minute till the last we were excellent.
“From my point of view it was the best performance since I’ve been here and is the sort of performance we need to repeat.
“Nobody could say we didn’t deserve to win and it came at exactly the right time. Everybody needed it and hopefully it will help us pick up as we head into the New Year.
“Guys like Dan Peart and Tristan Gale have come into the team and put their names forward, while Ryan Dovell makes a huge difference when he plays.
“His experience and the way he leads the line enables others to operate around him. He’s hard to knock off the ball and is deceptively strong.
“The one concern is that we only have two games left this year. We’ll have to keep the boys ticking over because the fixtures will come thick and fast after Christmas.
“Hopefully we will be strong enough to get through it. If we need to add one or two players to strengthen, then I will look to do that.”
Predictably, fourth-placed Brid-port’s Toolstation Western League Division One fixture away to Bradford Town on Saturday fell victim to the Big Freeze.
Senior was philosophical when voicing his thoughts on the postponement and suggested it could be a blessing in disguise.
He added: “To be honest it’s given some of our players a chance to recover from knocks. My son Chris has been strugg- ling with a groin injury so the extra rest will do him good.
“Ryan Hayter was working, so he was pleased the game was off, and Ryan Dovell would have been unable to make it as well.”
Asked if his troops have exceeded his expectations thus far, Senior replied: “I fancied us at the start of the season and thought we’d be there or thereabouts.
“We’ve brought in players like Ryan Dovell and Sam Filkins and have improved a lot. It’s a shame we’ve had a couple of disappointing results lately but there is plenty to play for.”
