Dorchester Town chief Ashley Vickers could be set to offer a permanent deal to young striker Rico Wilson.

Having tied midfield ace Steve Devlin to a longer stay earlier this week, Vickers is keen to secure the immediate future of Wilson.

The emerging talent was on trial during the summer before signing dual registration forms with the Magpies and Sherborne Town.

Wilson had to wait three months for his county town debut. But after coming on as a substitute in the Dorset Senior Cup tie with Gilling-ham Town, the ex-Yeovil Town forward marked the occasion with a goal and an assist.

The 19-year-old has made two further appearances since then and his efforts have not gone unnoticed.

The Magpies’ boss said: “Hope-fully we can sort something out with Rico, in terms of getting him on a contract, as we see something in him.

“Whether we loan him out in future remains to be seen but he certainly has some unique talent.

“If we can nurture that then he will be a good player for the future.

His approach and attitude has also impressed me.”

Meanwhile, former loan star Danny Ings has paid tribute to his time at Dorchester Town after winning a two-year contract at parent club AFC Bournemouth.

He said: “I think playing for Dorchester was the best thing that I could’ve done, to get games under my belt and to show people what I’m really about.

“Going to Dorchester really brought out the best in me.”

Vickers added: “He fully deserves it. From an impartial view it would be great to see him get an opportunity and take it.

“From a selfish point of view we want him to be available for loan in January.

“He enjoyed his time here, he became stronger, more streetwise, and overall a better player. Whether we manage to get him back again is all ifs and buts.”
