WEYMOUTH boss Ian Hutchinson has insisted his players must take “the bull by the horns” tomorrow when they face Banbury United at the Bob Lucas Stadium (3pm).
The Terras are unbeaten in their last four games in the Zamaretto Premier Division but they still sit eight points adrift of safety at the foot of the table and desperately need to keep up their recent momentum.
Hutchinson said: “We are unbeaten in seven in all competitions at home but we cannot afford to rest on our laurels now. We need to keep the momentum going and carry on trying to pick up as many points as we can.
“Confidence is high at the moment but we are certainly not getting carried away and others shouldn’t either because there is still a lot of work ahead of us.
“This season was always going to be a huge test and the lads have got to keep taking the bull by the horns.
“A lot of the local lads were playing in front of one man and his dog last season and it has taken time for them to get used to their new surroundings but now they appear to be revelling in it, and we want to see that continue.
“They have certainly been responding to the support they have received at home of late, and hopefully we will get a few more come through the gate tomorrow, as it really does make a huge difference.”
The Terras have looked like turning a corner several times this season and Hutchinson does not want to see this latest upturn in fortunes become just another false dawn.
He added: “Andy Mason (assistant-manager) and I have always thought if we could remain in the mix down the bottom until after Christmas, it would give us a good shot at staying up.
“But we know in order to do that we have to take it to the next level now rather than taking one step forward and two steps back.”
Ben Gerring is expected to be fit to feature tomorrow, but Sam Clarke (back), Rob Woll-easton (knee), Matteo King (groin) and Sam Charles (hamstring) are all doubts.
Hutchinson said: “Sam Clarke has been working with the physio but whether he will be ready to play tomorrow we will just have to see, and it is a similar case with the other three as well.
“Rob has been for checks on his knee injury and thankfully they have shown no ligament damage but we still need to be careful and will continue to assess him each day.”
The Bob Lucas Stadium was covered by a blanket of snow yesterday but Hutchinson is optimistic tomorrow’s game will receive the green light.
Meanwhile, talks are ongoing with Salisbury City over the possibility of extending Matthew Wright's loan deal to a third and final month.
