THE number 13 held no stigma for Amie Buttle as she reeled in a baker’s dozen at the West Dorset Warriors Swimming Club Championships.

The championships were eagerly anticipated by club members, giving them the opportunity of racing against each other in their own age groups.

By the end of the showpiece, there were 22 different champions across the club, with 244 new personal best times and 116 first recorded times.

Buttle proved to be queen of the pool by winning all 13 disciplines in the 13-14 year age group, despite a strong challenge from Charlotte Matthews, Victoria Halford and Charlotte Fairman.

Top boy was shared between Aaron Fryer and Ryan Knott who both won 11 events in the 13-14 years and 15-16 years categories.

Peter Horne and Knott excelled themselves in the 15-16 year 100m freestyle with the former beating the latter by just under half a second.

However, both boys were rewarded by recording a sub 60-second effort for the first time.

Knott was also involved in one of the closest races of the championships when he beat Fryer in the 200m individual medley by a hundredth of a second, resulting in both boys winning their individual age group titles.

Olivia Thornton showed her racing experience to win nine titles in the 15-16 group, with Katy Robinson taking the remaining four races, while in the 17 years plus, Kesiah Element and Kim Roberts shared the honours with six and three titles respectively.

The 11-12 years girls’ categories again proved to be the most competitive with the most entrants for any age group.

Beth Guy won seven titles, at the same time showing her dominance in the breaststroke by winning both the 100m and 200m in the fastest times for any girl in this year’s championships.

Amber Cornick bagged five titles, including a freestyle hat-trick in the 100m, 200m and 400m, while Aoife McCarthy showed her stamina to win the 1,500m freestyle crown.

In the 10 years and under category, Ciara Bowes shone in her first championship to win six races, with Gemma Baker and Megan Clarke each winning their first title in the 50m butterfly and 200m backstroke respectively.

Charlie Hitchcock had close contests with Hugh Ireland and Harry Buttle in the 11-12 group – Hitchcock winning nine titles and Ireland claiming the 100m, 200m and 1,500m freestyle titles.

Meanwhile, in the 10 years and under category, William Blackledge dominated by winning seven titles, with and George Kelman-Johns claiming the 200m breaststroke crown in his first championship.

Scott Civil and Jordan Trewartha could not be split in the 17 years and over 50m butterfly and thus shared the honours.

Civil went on to win four other races and Trewartha a further two.

Luke Voss claimed the title for the 13-14 year 200m backstroke while in the shorter 100m event Guy Buttle swam well to lift the 15-16 crown.
