MOONFLEET A took on their B side counterparts in the Wessex League Premier Division and the verdict went very much to the form book with the A team winning three out of four rinks for a 14-2 points victory.

Leading the A side’s impressive performance were Warwick Brown, StJ Corben, Chris Cook and Martin Puckett, who went 19-2 up at 10 ends, 22-5 in front at 15 before eventually winning 35-6 at 21 ends against Dave Picton, Colin Poulter, Pat Rod and Roy Paul.

Keith Wyman, Pete Read, Mike Durant and Alf Sawkins supported well with a 25-12 victory against Tony Colton, Howard King, Den Branney and John Stockley while Brian Burroughs, Ed Hughes, Kevin Walbridge and Neil Burroughs edged home 22-20 against Jack Mathie, Pete Child, Phil Goater and Mike Chislett.

The B side’s two points came via Phil Enemy, Alan Churches, Alan Kempter and Warren Smith.

Despite being 20-14 down at 15 ends, the quartet rallied to bag a 27-22 verdict against Geoff Whitehead, John Crabb, Ron McCarthy and Barry Patterson.

However, the damage had been done and the A side ran out comfortable 104-65 winners.

PREMIER TRIPLES CHALLENGE TROPHY MOONFLEET recorded an impressive result at Dolphin, Poole in Group B of the triples competition.

Ray Walbridge, Paul and Corben recovered from 10-9 adrift to outgun Tony Linley, Jack Leigh and Dennis Cutler, 19-14.

The companion rink of Colton, Rod and Norman Byden supported well, by keeping it tight at 14-11 in J Clark, Mike Jones and Norman Austin’s favour.

That meant Moonfleet recorded a narrow 30-28 victory overall.
