THIS year’s Portland United Youth Football Club Tournament was a “great success” according to chairman David Symes.

A fantastic turnout, including 52 teams, took part in the event at Grove Corner and the action was of an extremely high standard with the age group titles being shared all around the county.

Bridport (under-9s), Chickerell United (under-10s), Weymouth Cougars (under-11s), Weymouth Terras (under-12s), Portland United (under-13s) and Dorchester Panthers (under-14s) were the main winners but the tournament was more about fun and enjoyment, as was further proved in the non-competitive section for under-8s, which provided some great matches.

Symes said: “It was a fantastic event. To have 52 teams take part was incredible and it was great to see the whole community get behind it.

“A huge thank you must go to the YOI for supplying the referees, the Weymouth Volunteer Group for all their help, the Community Police, Dave Drage, all the sponsors and of course tournament organiser Tom King.

“Without all the local support and interest there is no way the event could have been such a success.”
