SAM Charles and Mike Rousell tore Swanage Town & Herston apart as Weymouth Reserves impressed in their first home game of the campaign at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The Swans entered the Magna Dorset Premier League clash off the back of a fine 0-0 draw at reigning champions Hamworthy Recreation but they were simply blown away by the Terras, who were at their free-flowing best.

And it was Charles who profited the most with a staggering double hat-trick. The ex-Portland United striker, who was dropped from the first-team squad, was clearly out to prove a point to Ian Hutchinson and he did so in emphatic fashion with three goals in each half.

But he was not the only one to impress. Former Westland Sports forward Mike Rousell also showed his goalscoring credentials by bagging four, two of which came from the penalty spot.

Afterwards, Weymouth boss Brendon King said: “It could have been more. We were thoroughly professional throughout and even though we went in 4-0 up at half-time the lads did not get complacent and went out and continued to do the right things.

“It is about getting into good habits and every one of them did their jobs and were a huge credit to the club.”

Commenting on Charles and Rousell, King added: “Hutch wanted Sam to get some minutes under his belt and build a bit of confidence and he certainly did that. As for Mikey, he is still not 100 per cent fit from his knee injury yet but he linked up with Sam well and also scored four himself.

“But to be honest it is tough to single anyone out. John Litherland and Ben Reiffer dominated the midfield and were excellent, and Mark Robinson’s experience and talking was invaluable, so without naming everyone, they all played their part.”

The Terras took the lead after just seven minutes when Tom Richard-son was taken down in the box enabling Rousell to open his account from the spot.

Charles then weighed in with three goals in 14 minutes. The powerful forward fired home from just inside the box on 24 minutes and then followed it up with another clinical finish from Rousell’s assist, which came after some fine build up play.

Ryan McKechnie then set up Charles for his third as the Terras went into half-time in total command.

It took just nine second-half minutes for the fifth to arrive. The visiting keeper hauled down Charles in the box and Rousell once again made no mistake with the resulting penalty.

Charles then brought up the half dozen with a glancing header from a pinpoint cross from Robinson, who then committed a foul at the other end that led to the Swans grabbing a consolation from the spot through Mark Wheeler. However, that strike seemed to spur the Terras on even more and in the final 15 minutes they netted another four. Rousell ran through one-on-one and applied a tidy finish before Charles struck from close range to make it 8-1.

The attacking duo then grabbed another goal apiece in the closing stages to complete an incredible afternoon’s work, which will no doubt give Hutchinson food for thought.
