WEYMOUTH will be up against three former Cats tonight when the Newport Hornets visit the Wessex Raceway (7.15pm).

Kyle Newman, James White-Williams and Luke Priest have all donned the Wildcats’ race jacket in recent years but their current allegiance lies with the high-flying South Wales outfit.

And the hosts will have their work cut out as they bid for a fourth straight National League win on home shale.

Chairman and team manager Phil Bartlett though, has faith in the ability of his riders.

He said: “Newport are strong contenders for the league, they’ve got a very strong team and I’m sure it’s going to be a fantastic display of rac- ing.

“It’ll be a tough encounter for us but it’s one we want to win in order to keep our recent home record going.

“I’m very happy with the solidity of the team, especially after our win against Plymouth last Friday. I just want the boys to enjoy the rest of the National League fixtures, as there’s no pressure on them, and go all out to get some decent results in the National Trophy meetings.”

Tonight marks the start of a busy period for the Weyline Wildcats with four meetings in the space of five days.

Following the visit of Newport, Bartlett’s charges travel to Bux-ton for a league and trophy double-header on Sunday (from 3pm) before hopping over to the Isle of Wight on Tuesday night (7.30pm) for another National Trophy encounter.

Weymouth’s line-up for this evening is set to be unchanged from the one that defeated Ply-mouth Devils last Friday, while the Hornets have concerns over the fitness of reserve rider Tom Young.

Hornets: 1 Kurtz, 2 Priest, 3 Jones, 4 Atkins, 5 Newman, 6 White-Williams, 7 TBC.
