TREVOR Senior believes his Bridport side have “nothing to lose” against Clevedon Town in the FA Cup preliminary round tomorrow (3pm).

The in-form Bees welcome the winless Zamaretto League Division One S&W outfit to St Mary’s Field on the back of five successive victories in all competitions this season.

Fresh from overturning Oldland Abbotonians on Tuesday night, Bridport will be aiming to continue their impressive recent tradition in the FA Cup.

And boss Senior, who is calling for a bumper turnout to flood through the turnstiles, feels his troops will relish their tag as underdogs and could spring another surprise against illustrious opponents.

He said: “Clevedon are a couple of leagues higher than we are so in that respect we have nothing to lose. But we want to keep our unbeaten run going.

“Home advantage should help and confidence is high. Hopefully we will get a decent crowd down because we have won five games in a row. That would make a huge difference.

“It’s a good distraction to have from the league and while it’s not all about the money, it’s always nice for the club to get some extra cash.

“To be honest I don’t know too much about Clevedon, but I have spoken to someone who saw them in pre-season, although you can’t read too much into those results.”

While Senior’s knowledge of the Somerset side may not be extensive, many of his players will remember locking horns with Clevedon in the first qualifying round of this competition two seasons ago.

Seven members of the squad that made that trip to the Hand Stadium could feature tomorrow, and they will be looking to improve on their 4-1 reversal last time round.

Senior, who excused his charges from training last night, is expected to name the same starting XI that recorded recent victories over Roman Glass St George and Oldland Abbotonians.

That means Ryan Dovell will continue to lead the line as a lone striker, with Jamie Symes, who has bagged seven goals in his previous four appearances, filling in behind.

On Symes’ recent exploits, Senior added: “Jamie is a good finisher anyway and is cool in front of goal. Sometimes when you are on a good run the ball falls for you and that’s what’s happened for him.”

Lee Cuff could be added to the squad as goalkeeping cover for Sam Filkins, while the versatile Chris Clarke is also due to bolster Bridport’s resources.
