GOLDEN girl Kate Mason is celebrating after powering to the ladies’ masters title at the 23rd International Self-Transcendence Marathon Swim in Switzerland.

Weyport Masters’ coach Mason clocked a stunning time of 9hrs 27mins for the gruelling 26.4km course to take top honours in a field comprising 36 solo swimmers and relay teams.

The competitors entered the water at Rapperswil and headed along the picturesque shores of Lake Zurich before finishing at the city of Zurich.

Accompanying Mason was Julia Aston, who kayaked the length of the lake as supporter and coach, with both she and Mason being forced to dodge ferries and brave thunder and lightning throughout.

This annual event attracts entrants from all over the world and it is often used as a warm-up to swimming the English Channel or other marathon swims around the globe.
