WEYMOUTH Weyline Wildcats face a journey into the unknown tonight as they visit high-flying Dudley Heathens (7.30pm).

The lowly Cats travel to Birmingham to take on the second-placed Heathens, but with little knowledge of the Perry Barr Stadium track.

Team manager and club chairman Phil Bartlett, whose side enter the National League clash on the back of a 43-31 victory over Plymouth, is therefore asking his riders to merely “enjoy themselves” this evening.

He said: “I’ve never been there before and I doubt any of our riders have seen the track either.

“Dudley have got a good team but we’ll be confident going into it after Friday’s win.

“It would be nice to spoil the party by winning but we’ve got no pre-conceived ideas of doing that. I just want the boys to go out there and enjoy themselves.

“There’s no pressure on us. If they go out and have fun you never know what can happen.

“All the pressure will be on Dudley. They might think it’s going to be easy because of where we are in the table but we’ve got nothing to lose. We’ll go there and see what we can do.”

The Weyline Wildcats are in buoyant mood following their National Trophy success against the Devils, and the addition of two new signings in Dan Halsey and ex-skipper Karl Mason.

Bartlett believes the arrival of former Bournemouth ace Halsey will have a positive effect on the fortunes of number one star Byron Bekker.

He added: “We’ve got a well-balanced team and Friday’s win over Plymouth proved that as five of our riders scored eight points apiece.

“We had a formidable one and two in Byron and Dan. Dan was providing good back-up for Byron and hopefully it will bring the best out of him.

“Byron is a fantastic number one and Dan’s arrival seems to have raised his game a bit.”

Wildcats: 1 Bekker, 2 Halsey, 3 Brown, 4 Mason, 5 Cockle, 6 Andrews, 7 Cottham.
