WEYMOUTH St Paul’s Harriers put on a spirited display at the last Wessex League competition in Winchester with Jake Guildford grabbing the headlines with a double success in the throwing events.

Guildford won the under-15s A shot with a distance of 12.54m and then followed it up with a new club record of 32.15m in the A discus.

Less fortunate was Aiden Jephcot, who in his first competition for the club had to miss out on all his events in the under-15s category due to a twisted ankle and swollen knee, which he suffered in a heavy fall.

Meanwhile, in the under-15 girls’ section, Emma Stevenson threw an impressive 16.06m to take third in the A javelin before producing another great effort of 6.80m in the A shot where she claimed fourth. She also achieved second place in the B 75m hurdles, which she completed in 19secs.

Kelly Allen also enjoyed a fine competition, claiming third-place finishes in both the A 100m (14.40secs) and the 75m hurdles (16secs), as well as fourth in the long jump (3.84m).

In the high jump, Saxon Roy produced a personal best of 1.48m to take first spot, which was a welcome reward following a spate of injury problems.

Three athletes competed in the under-13 boys with Liam Catterall coming third in the A 75m hurdles (15.50secs), and sixth in the A 100m (16secs) and the A long jump (3.51m).

Charlie Williams finished third in the B 100m (16.70secs) and fifth in the A 200m (36secs) while Toby Manning came fifth in the A 800m (3mins 0.06secs) and the A high jump (1.05m), and fourth in the B long jump (3.33m).

There was also some impressive displays in the under-13 girls’ section where Elinor Mason’s personal best run in the A 800m (2mins 51.09secs) saw her grab a third-place finish. She also came third in the A 70m hurdles (14.9secs) and second in the A long jump (3.76m).

Team-mate Hannah Westhenry also collected some fine results, finishing second in the B 70m hurdles (16.40secs), third in the A 1200m (6.07mins) and fifth in the A high jump (1.05m).

In the under-11s category, eight athletes took part in the Quad Kids competition, which consisted of the long jump, vortex throw, 75m & 600m. For the girls, the best performer was Ruby Ellis who came 11th in a strong field with 186 points, having jumped 3.37m in the long jump, threw the vortex 23m, and ran the 75m in 11.08secs and the 600m in 2.37mins.

Maddison Stringer finished 22nd with 142 points with her best result coming in the 600m (2.25mins) where Emily Fraher, who came 24th, also produced an impressive time (2.25mins), along with 29th-placed Jodie Clarke (2.24mins) and Zoe Allan (2.36mins), who finished 31st.

Jessica Austin, who came 32nd overall, saved her best performance for the vortex throw (13.38m).

For the boys, Bailey Roper came 14th with 166 points, having jumped 2.74m in the long jump, threw the vortex 22.52m, and ran the 75m in 13secs and the 600m in 2.17mins. Lee Manning finished 18th with his best event being the 600m (2.28mins).
