BRIDPORT RES 2 WEYMOUTH RES 3

THE Terras pulled off an amazing second-half comeback to end Bridport Reserves’ winning start to the season at St Mary’s Field on Saturday.

The Bees took a 2-0 lead into the break thanks to a brace from Ben Clarke but Weymouth hit back through Mike Rousell, new-signing Adam Taylor and Ryan McKechnie to eventually snatch all three points.

However, the victory did come at a cost for Brendon King’s men with defender Jordan Vincent suffering a first-half knee injury, which could sideline him for several weeks.

King said: “We put on a decent performance and certainly did not deserve to be two down at half-time.

“The first came from the penalty spot but even Tristan Gale, who won it, admitted afterwards that he had actually fallen over rather than been brought down by our keeper Ashley Weeks.

“The second one then came after Jordan slipped and caught his studs in the ground. That allowed Gale to get away and pull it back to Clarke for an easy finish.

“Jordan had to come off injured after that. It looks like it could be knee ligament damage, which could put him out for a while, but we will assess it this week.

“At half-time I told the lads to be patient as I was confident we would be rewarded.

“Even if we hadn’t won in the end and lost 2-1 or drawn 2-2, I would have still been proud of the lads for the reaction they showed after half-time.”

For Bees’ boss Steve Crabb, the result was a bit of a sickener following victories over Poole Borough and Chickerell United. He said: “In the end I thought we were unlucky not to hold out for a point but they are a quality side and they just kept coming.

“We had chances to get a third but did not take them and once they got their second five minutes before the end they put us under huge pressure.

“They are without doubt the best team we have played so far and the fact that we kept with them is encouraging for the rest of the season.”
