Chickerell UTD 2 PARLEY SPORTS 1

GRANT Chance scored a fine double for Chickerell United as they recorded their second Magna Dorset Premier League win of the new campaign at Weymouth College.

Despite being without the likes of Jack Robinson, Antony Carlile and Rob Maxted, the Chickens saw Chance opening the scoring in the first half with a cool finish.

Parley then took advantage of some sloppy defending and hit back just after the break through Martin Thompson before home substitute Stuart Walbridge won a penalty for United for the second time in just four days.

Maxted missed the resulting spot-kick against Brid-port Reserves last Tuesday but this time Chance made no mistake as he hammered the ball home via the underside of the bar.

However, there was still one more chance for Parley in the closing stages, which saw Ian Bickerstaff pull off an incredible low save to his right to ensure the Chick-ens held on.

Six points from nine is a great start for Chickerell considering all the changes manager Chris Wilson has been forced to make to the squad over the summer.

And stand-in boss Terry Oldrid is looking forward to having Wilson back in the dugout on Wednesday evening when the Chickens take on Weymouth Res-erves.

The ex-Easton United boss has been unable to attend the first three games but will no doubt be happy with the progress that has been made in his absence.

Oldrid said: “We did not really gel in the first half and I was not happy with the performance even though we went into half-time 1-0 up.

“We had a chat and tried to work out where we were going wrong but we then went out in the second half and conceded a sloppy equaliser when we got caught ball watching.

“I then made a couple of changes and it helped add another dimension. Stuart looked particularly lively and won us the penalty which Grant fired home.

“It was a battling performance but certainly not our best. But when you play like that and still pick up three points it’s usually a good sign.”
