ONLY time will tell whether Saturday’s washout in the Dorset Premier League was a blessing or a curse for Weymouth.

The Seasiders, who were due to travel to Broadstone, remain fourth bottom in the county’s top-flight.

But with Ferndown Wayfarers and Wimborne & Colehill breathing down their necks they will still need to pick up points in their last two games against Stalbridge and title-contenders Parley to stave off the threat of relegation.

Payne said: “It is hard to know exactly what impact this washout will have but it was always going to happen at some point as I can never remember us getting through an entire season without at least one of our games being postponed.

“The only benefit it could have for us is that Ferndown and Wimborne were meant to play each other on Saturday, which means one of them would have won but then again we were confident of getting a result at Broadstone.

“We can speculate all we want but the most important thing now is that we start focusing on putting in good performances in our last two games, starting with Stalbridge this Saturday.

“Both games are at home but we are well aware how tough they will be. Stalbridge beat us at their place and have had a good season, while Parley are the reigning champions and top of the league, so we will have to be right on our game for both.”

Despite missing four key players for the trip to Broadstone and being in such a precarious position in the table, Payne was still disappointed when he received news of the postponement.

He added: “It is always nice to play and it was a good chance for those players coming into the side to show what they can do, so of course it was disappointing. However, we still have two games left and we will be doing all we can to make sure we get the results we need.”
