ALL four pieces of silverware went to sides based in Dorset in the latest Beach Tag Rugby Festival held on the sands of Weymouth Beach.

Weymouth won the cup, Dorchester captured the shield and North Dor-set’s first team and second string claimed the plate and bowl respectively.

But much credit must also go to the two invitation teams from the capital, London Hitz and London Italians, who gave 100 per cent and produced some magnificent performances in what was another fantastic event.

Weymouth RFC secretary Chris Davis said: “In the morning the 16 teams that took part were drawn into four pools of four with the placings at the end of the first round of games deciding who went on to play for the cup, shield, plate or bowl.

“All the games entertained the crowd both in terms of the rugby on display, and the sportsmanship shown by everybody concerned.

“And the fair play award had to go to the London Italians as when they played against younger teams they ensured they handicapped themselves to provide fair and equal games.

“A huge well done also has to go to Weymouth and Dorchester Minis, who held their own against the older more experienced teams.

“We would also like to say a special thank you to the RFU personnel for their hard work in organising the day and the Dorset & Wilts Referees Society for supplying the officials. Another big thanks goes to the New Vic public house for supplying lunch to all of the volunteers on the day.”

The teams that took part included Weymouth, Weymouth Pirates, Team Keenan, Hitz Squad, Seven Dwarfs, Weymouth Under-13s, London Italians, Weymouth Minis, James` Warriors, North Dorset I and II, Dorchester Minis, Dorchester I and II, Blandford and Dorchester Ladies
