CAMERON Mawer will make a final decision today on whether he will return for a third spell at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

And the defender is not the only potential signing Weymouth boss Ian Hutchinson is currently sweating on ahead of Saturday’s Zamaretto Premier Division opener at Hales-owen Town.

As exclusively revealed by Echo-sport yesterday, the club has also been locked in talks with a high-profile striker, which is understood to be ex-Fulham ace Barry Hayles.

Hutchinson still refuses to confirm or deny whether the 38-year-old forward is the target he has been tracking but he did admit that he is still waiting for responses from possible acquisitions.

He said: “We are still sitting tight and waiting but as yet we have nothing more to report. We are trying our best to get a couple more in and later on I should have some more news on Cameron who said he would give us a decision today.

“Other things might well go down to the 11th hour and if that is the way it has to be then so be it.”

When asked how his young squad are feeling ahead of the big kick-off, Hutchinson added: “All the players are upbeat and it is up to Andy Mason and I to keep them that way.

“We have certainly seen they can compete. We were never outplayed in pre-season and there were a lot of positives we could take from the first half of last Saturday’s defeat against Dorchester Town.”
