FORMED only two years ago, West Dorset Warriors Junior Water Polo Club are already celebrating after completing a successful season in the Dorset County ASA Mini Water Polo League.

The under-11 team won all but two of their games, only being beaten by a more experienced side from Christchurch, to be crowned runners-up in their division.

On their way to second place they beat long established clubs from Bridport and Blandford.

Cameron Dabbs was the team’s top scorer while Kriss Radivjosa was named player of the year for his all-round contribution.

The under-11s were presented with their medals at Thomas Hardye Leisure Centre by Dave Bradley, chairman of the Dorset County ASA Mini Water Polo League.

The under-14s finished a respectable fourth, competing against sides who have benefited from playing together for a much longer period.

George Askew was the team’s top marksman with Louis Smallwood receiving the well-earned player of the year award.

A spokesperson said: “Coaches Leah Wistrand and Andrea Dabbs are to be congratulated for the hard work they have put into the club during the first two years, and they have been rewarded by their two teams’ performances in the pool.

“Throughout the club every boy and girl can be proud of what they have achieved in such a short period of time.”

The club, based at the Thomas Hardye Leisure Centre in Dorchester, train for 45 minutes a week throughout the year in preparation of the league season, which runs from September to June.

They are affiliated to the West Dorset Warriors Swimming Club and welcome new members of all abilities, both boys and girls.
