WILDCAT Adam McKinna has revealed he would be more than happy to see out the season on the south coast.
The 23-year-old was drafted into the Weymouth side 12 days ago as a temporary replacement for the stricken Terry Day, who remains sidelined with severe concussion.
Although McKinna is keen to regain full fitness, following a 10-week lay-off due to a broken neck, and rejoin his Newcastle Diamonds team-mates in the Premier League, the son of legendary Scottish rider Kenny is hoping to repay the faith shown in him by Wildcats’ chairman Phil Bartlett.
He said: “I just want to keep pushing on and try to get back in the Premier League.
“Even if I go back to the Premier, if I can stay with the Wildcats until the end of the season then I probably will.
“The club has done me a big favour by letting me come and ride for them, whereas no one else would.
“Therefore I want to return the favour by staying as long as I can.”
McKinna has since scored seven points in each of his three meetings to date, helping the Wildcats to two National League victories on home shale.
However, he believes he is yet to hit top gear for the Radipole Lane outfit.
He added: “I was quite happy with seven points for my first meeting, but that was because I hadn’t been on a bike for 10 weeks. But going to the Isle of Wight last week, a track that suits me, I expected more than seven.
“My gating is not happening for me at the moment. I managed to get one right at the start of the meeting last Friday but missed the rest.
“If I can get my gating back then I should be able to win almost every race here. I’m quite renowned in the Premier League for my gating so coming down to this league I should be a long way in front at the start. But with more practice hopefully I’ll get my gating back.”
McKinna has withstood a couple of tumbles since returning to action, much to his delight.
He said: “I’m actually quite glad I’ve had a couple of crashes since coming back.
“You’re always a bit cautious when you come back and I fell on my head in one of those falls but I knew then that my neck was fully healed.”
The Wildcats host the King’s Lynn Young Stars tomorrow night (7.15pm) before Byron Bekker and James Cockle represent the club in the National League Best Pairs at Newport the following day (2.30pm).
