DORSET’S quest for the Minor Counties Championship Western Division title will go to the final game of the campaign after yesterday’s clash against Cornwall in St Austell finished in a draw.
Sean Walbridge’s men once again showed their quality with both bat and ball, but after the opening day in the South West was washed out by persistent rain, Dorset always had a mountain to climb in order to force a result.
After Dorset notched 314 from their first innings, the Duchy came into the final day having racked up 129-1 overnight.
David Roberts smashed a boundary-laden 81 for the home side and was ably-supported by Matt Rowe (40) and Chris Hunkin (47).
Roberts was eventually caught by Aaron Williams off the bowling of Tom Hicks (3-70), while the Dorset captain also trapped Rowe leg before.
Hunkin, meanwhile, was clean bowled by Mitch Wilson (2-65), before Max Waller (2-46) helped clean up the tail, leaving Cornwall 316 all out at stumps.
Dorset collected 11 points, but with Berkshire beating Shropshire, Wal-bridge’s side dropped to second in the table.
The Dean Park side face Wales Minor Counties at home on August 15-17.
