DAVE Griffiths smashed 97 runs to help Herrison Youth clinch second spot in Dorch-ester Evening League Division One.
The Herrison batsman fell agonisingly short of an impressive century but found solace in the fact that his side (167-2) overcame league champions St George’s (163-2), despite the efforts of Andy Legg (82), to steal the runners-up berth from Martins-town.
Martinstown put themselves in the driving seat with two wins. The first came against Knockout Cup winners Herrison before Dewlish fell at the hands of Chris Read’s men.
Against Youth (127-8), Martinstown (138-4) had Lee House (41) to thank for his 41 runs and Read, Phillip Stone and Liam Banfield for their identical bowling figures of 2-29.
Lee House then finished unbeaten on 61, while Banfield (4-31) snared four wickets as the Ashton Field outfit (107-6) got the better of fifth-placed Dewlish (106ao).
There was no end-of-season joy for basement boys Puddletown (130ao) as they closed the campaign without a single point following a 59-run defeat against Hazelbury Bryan (189ao).
Stars of the show for Bryan were Will Howes (77) and Jack Bettle (4-26).
Division Two champions Bere Regis (173-6) completed a successful season with a 44-run victory over Charlton Down (129ao), in which Steve Cheese-man returned impressive figures of 4-19.
Plush (55-0) bagged the third tier title with a comfortable win against rock-bottom Charlton Down Seconds (53ao) while Colliton Club (57-2) overcame Puddletown RFC (54-8) in another low-scoring match.
