WEYMOUTH St Paul’s Harriers put on an impressive display at the third Wessex League competition in Oxford.
For the under-13 girls, Elinor Mason ran her first 1,200m in an impressive 4mins 47.8secs to take fourth in the A stream while Hannah Westhenry took a huge 17 seconds off her personal best to also finish fourth in the B stream 1,200m in 5mins 45.8secs.
Mason and Westhenry also impressed in other events with the former gaining third place in the A stream 70m hurdles in 15secs, and the latter equalling her pb of 1.15m and recording 2.92m in the A stream high jump and long jump respectively.
Other top performers in the under-13 girls’ section included Sinead Saddlington, who came fifth in the A stream 100m in 15secs, fourth in the A stream 200m in 31.3secs and fourth in the B stream long jump with a leap of 2.91m.
Laura Rankin also showed her versatility, claiming second in the B stream 200m in 31.3secs, second in the B stream 70m hurdles in 16.3secs and sixth in the A stream long jump with a distance of 3.26m.
For the under-13 boys, Liam Catterall came third in the A stream 75m hurdles in 15.9secs, fifth in the A stream long jump with 3.57m and finished fifth in the A stream 100m in 16.7secs.
Two athletes competed in the under-17 men’s events with Reece Clarke gaining third place in the A stream 100m and fourth place in the A stream 200m with times of 12.2secs and 26secs respectively.
Meanwhile, Ben Westhenry proved his strength at the longer distances, with a first-place finish in the A stream 800m in 2mins 0.5secs and a third-place in the A stream 400m in 56.6secs.
In the under-11s, a quintet of athletes took part in the Quad Kids competition, which consists of long jump, vortex throw, 75m and 600m.
For the girls, the best performer was Maddison Stringer, who came 12th with 162 points, having jumped 2.38m in the long jump, produced a throw of 18.45m with the vortex, ran 75m in 12.4 secs, and finished the 600m race in 2mins 20secs.
Jodie Clarke came 18th (134 points) ahead of Emily Fraher in 24th (113 points) and Emily Jewzel in 26th (91 points).
Finally, Lee Manning moved up 12 places and gained an extra 49 points from his previous competition, coming 15th (160 points) with a jump of 2.87m, a throw of 20.82m, and two superb runs in the 75m and 600m which he completed in 13.5secs and 2mins 18secs respectively.
