RYAN Thomas completed an impressive return to boxing by landing Portland ABC’s best senior award at the club’s annual presentation evening.
The celebration was held at Portland United Football Club headquarters as the islanders brought the curtain down on a successful season.
And among the winners was Thomas, who has settled in well after several years away from the ring.
Also picking up awards were Luke Alder for best junior, following three wins from three, and boxers’ boxer of the year Taylor Wakefield.
Other winners included Carla Nash (best female), Thomas Jarvis (most improved), Sam King (achiever of the year), Michael Elborn (club member of the year), Andy Hamilton (coach of the year), Brennan Richmond and Thea Gaines (best kids gloves).
Derry McNulty won the two-mile kids gloves, Wakefield took the two-mile bunny run title while Sam King and Andrew McGivern triumphed in the five-mile and 10-mile equivalents.
Club secretary Vince Ealson said: “It’s remarkable that our squad is at its largest since the club started, especially as we lost several senior boxers to long-term injuries.”
