ST GEORGE’S have clinched their fifth successive Dorchester Evening League Division One title – setting a new league record in the process.

The Saints knew that victory in their penultimate game of the season against Dewlish would be enough to lift the crown, and they didn’t disappoint.

Dewlish closed on 105-6 with Tom Hewish (43) leading the way. But the table-toppers held their nerve to reach 110 with six wickets in hand.

Herrison Youth’s (76-2) comfortable win over Hazelbury Bryan (75-6) proved in vein, despite the efforts of Paul Chatterton (3-0) while fellow title hopefuls Martinstown (111ao) suffered a second successive loss, falling to Dewlish (139-5).

Martinstown were outdone by the Millers with Quenton (50) plundering a half-century and Justin (3-22) snaring three wickets.

Elsewhere in the top tier, Cerne Valley finished on a high with back-to-back wins.

First they (69-1) got the better of Hazelbury Bryan (66ao) before an unbeaten 50 from Neil Kellaway helped Valley (92-2) dispose of struggling Puddletown (90-8).

Bere Regis (189-3) are also celebrating after winning Division Two with an emphatic victory over Frampton (62ao).

Nick Cheeseman top scored with 62 before Oran Elphinstone-Davis (4-22) got to work on the Frampton batsmen.

Simon Pengelly’s (5-35) fifer was not enough to stop Abbotsbury (113-7) slipping from second to fourth courtesy of a 27-run defeat against Cattistock (140-6), who climb into the runners-up as a result.

Martin Langford starred for the victors with an all-round display that yielded an unbeaten 29 and figures of 2-18.

A five-wicket haul from Kim Park (5-13) did gain reward as his Charlton Down side (114-3) defeated rock-bottom Puddletown Reserves (78ao).

Plush (87-4) remain favourites to land the Division Three title after overcoming Colliton Club (83ao) in their latest outing.

Chris Wall (5-18) bagged himself a fifer, after watching Ian Croft smash 89 not out, as Churches United (178-2) beat Puddletown RFC (44ao).

The division’s other clash saw Nick Quintrell (97no) agonisingly miss out on a superb century in Martinstown Seconds’ (192-9) commanding win over Charlton Down Seconds (108-9).
